The Pillars of Faith: Abraham

The Father of Faith and the Journey of Trust

”By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” — Hebrews 11:8

Who Was Abraham?

Originally named Abram, he was a man living in the city of Ur when God called him to leave everything behind. He is the patriarch of the faith, not because he was perfect, but because he believed God’s promises even when they seemed physically impossible.

The Divine Purpose

  • The Call: Abraham was asked to move to an unknown land (Canaan), marking the beginning of a life lived by “looking ahead” rather than looking back.
  • The Covenant: God promised to make him a great nation and that through him, “all peoples on earth will be blessed.”
  • The Test: His willingness to trust God—even with the life of his son, Isaac—showed a level of devotion that defines the “Pillar of Faith.”

The COPE Perspective: Stepping into the Unknown

Abraham’s life was not a straight line of success; he had moments of fear and tried to take matters into his own hands. Yet, God remained faithful.

At COPE Ministry, we look to Abraham as proof that you don’t need to know the whole map to start the journey. You just need to trust the One who is calling you. If you feel “lost” or “far away,” Abraham reminds us that home is found in God’s presence, not a geographic location.
