Taking the Church to the Streets
The Church was never meant to stay inside a building on a Sunday. It is meant to be the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting people right in the middle of their pain, heartbreak, and everyday struggles.
Recently, Adele and I took our WF Postcode Tour outreach to the streets of Castleford. It was an absolute blessing of a day, and we had the privilege of connecting with some incredible people, including Angela Jayne Joy, who came out to join us. Our mission at COPE Ministry has always been to reach the lost, the broken, the addicted, and the homeless—offering real hope through the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
“Go Outside and Get Your Own!”
God really moved in Castleford, and we saw firsthand how hungry people are for hope, exactly where they are. By the end of the outreach, we had managed to get 10 New Testaments and 10 “Why Jesus” booklets directly into the hands of the community.
We even had people coming out of the local pub asking us for Bibles and Jesus figurines! You honestly couldn’t make it up. At one point, we all had to laugh when we heard someone shouting from right inside the pub:
“That’s my Jesus, give it back! Go outside and get your own!”
It was a brilliant, lighthearted reminder that God can spark a hunger for truth anywhere—even on a afternoon trip to the local pub.
A Moment of Comfort in the Heartbreak
Beyond the laughs, there were deeply moving moments where we saw the grace of God touch lives. We had the privilege of stopping to pray with a lady who was deeply grieving the recent loss of her husband.
In the middle of her heartbreak, right there on the pavement, you could genuinely feel the love and presence of God meeting her. Moments like that remind us that people don’t need perfect words or theological debates. They just need someone willing to stop, listen, care, and lift them up in prayer. Seeds were planted in Castleford, lives were touched, and heaven sees it all.
Looking Forward to July: Our Father’s House
The harvest is plentiful, and we are just getting started. We want to say a huge thank you to Angela for her encouragement and for standing with us on the streets.
Adele and I are already looking forward to July, where we have been invited to join everyone at Our Father’s House – Recovery Church. With Angela Jane Joy We can’t wait to share our testimony, talk about all the incredible things God has done in our lives, and fellowship with a church family that understands the power of recovery and restoration.
Keep pushing forward, keep shining the light, and we will see you all in July!
